Structure Fire on Losson Road

While you were sleeping, South Line Firefighters were alerted to a structure fire in the 1100 block to Losson Road at approximately 0130 hrs. this morning. Command was established by Assistant Chief Broad, while Operations was assumed by Assistant Chief Wilkowski. Command reported heavy fire conditions in a 2 car garage that was in close proximity to the main residence. The initial alarm assignment also consisted of a mutual aid engine from East Seneca Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District #4, and a FAST Team from Twin District Volunteer Fire Company. South Line Engine 2 arrived on scene first deploying multiple 2 1/2 inch hoselines while simultaneously obtaining a water supply. Thankfully all the residents escaped the fire, unharmed prior to fire department arrival. South Line Engine 1 provided additional manpower, while South Line 6 Truck positioned for a defensive attack. The advanced fire was rapidly spreading to the main residence resulting in a 2nd Alarm being struck by the ever ready Cheektowaga Police Department Public Safety Dispatchers. The 2nd alarm brought additional fire units to the scene from our mutual aid partners. As heavy fire conditions pushed from the roof causing a partial collapse with multiple live electrical wires down around the residence, command ordered units on scene to switch to a defensive attack. South Line District Chief Dayton provided additional support to command relaying the evolving conditions on the rear of the structure. Additional resources from the Second Alarm arrived on scene bringing manpower from Bellevue Fire Company, Doyle Hose Co. No. 1, Sloan Active Hose Company #1, Forks Fire Dept., and a Second FAST Team from Bowmansville Volunteer Fire Association. The fire was reported under control by command at 0230 hrs., with all hands needed to assist with overhaul operations. Union Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District 2 providing much needed standby coverage while crews were on scene. Once overhaul was completed, the scene was turned over to the Cheektowaga Police Department for cause and origin investigation. South Line units returned to service at approximately 0415 hrs. Special Thanks to all our mutual aid partners, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the residents affected by this tragedy.
